6K Full-Frame Sensor
Canon has equipped the C400 camera with its new 6K CMOS sensor, providing exceptionally low noise, enhanced sensitivity efficiency, and improved 4K imagery through 6K oversampling. This is achieved with the advanced light capture technology of the back-illuminated, stacked CMOS sensor.
Triple-Base ISOs
The 6K CMOS sensor also offers three ISO speeds: 800, 3200, and 12,800. This range allows you to capture the brilliance of settings like Times Square or a sunlit landscape, as well as the nuances of low-light scenes like interior locations or nighttime cityscapes.
Multiple Recording Formats
The C400 supports various recording formats to meet the needs of different projects. It offers up to 6K60 Cinema RAW and HQ, ST, and LT Cinema RAW Light 12-bit modes. Oversampled 4K with exceptional detail is available in 10-bit 4:2:2 with frame rates up to 120p, without cropping the sensor. Slow- and fast-motion can be recorded at rates up to UHD 4K120 and 2K180.
Canon simplifies your editing process with two new codecs: XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S, featuring an easier naming system, folder structure, and metadata preservation within the established MP4 format.
Optional PL-Mount Adapter
Expand your lens options with the separately available PL-RF adapter for the C400. This adapter includes side lock plates for a secure fit and transfers Cooke/i metadata for VF/X and other post-production uses.
Dual Media Slots
The C400 features CFexpress Type-B and SD card slots, enabling sub-recording and proxy capture using the SD card slot while simultaneously recording up to raw using a CFexpress card.
Mechanical ND Filters
Whether shooting a cine-style feature or capturing run-and-gun footage for documentaries or events, the C400 allows quick adjustment of up to 10 stops of ND filtration. This enables you to maintain your chosen depth of field without needing to stop down the lens.
Compact, Lightweight Body
The RF lens mount's short flange back reduces the lens mount area and overall size, making the C400 ideal for gimbal, handheld, or drone capture.
Improved Autofocus Function
For times when a focus puller is not available, the C400 offers Canon's Dual-Pixel Autofocus function, enhanced by the wider area of the back-illuminated CMOS sensor. Intelligent tracking allows precise following of eyes, face, head, and body areas of subjects. For nature documentaries, the C400 can detect the eyes, face, or body of select animals, unaffected by their size or facial orientation.
Production and Broadcast Features
The versatile C400 includes a variety of interfaces for both film and broadcast productions. These ports include 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI, HDMI video outputs, dual mini-XLR audio inputs, timecode, genlock, return video DIN connectors, and a 12-pin lens port. An automatic clear-scan mode for the shutter helps reduce or eliminate flickering from LED walls by detecting the light source's frequency.
LCD, Handle, and Grip
Ergonomic improvements in the C400 include a new touchscreen LCD, grip, and battery. The LCD mount has angle and length adjustments for optimal positioning, whether shooting handheld, shoulder-mounted, or on a tripod. The articulated handgrip features a multifunction shoe, three assignable buttons, and captive screws that remain attached when mounting or
