7K Full-Frame CMOS Sensor
The C50 is equipped with a 7K back-illuminated full-frame CMOS sensor that delivers low-noise performance in a wide range of lighting environments. This maximizes the camera’s 15+ stop dynamic range in full-frame mode. Shooting in 7K also provides greater flexibility in post, such as creating oversampled 4K60 footage.
3:2 Open Gate Sensor Mode
For the first time in the Cinema EOS line, the C50 offers Open Gate recording using the full sensor dimensions. Select Full Frame 3:2 mode to shoot with the entire sensor and crop or reframe later to your preferred aspect ratio. This is especially useful when shooting with anamorphic lenses.
Internal Raw and High Frame Rate Recording
The C50 supports 7K60 Cinema RAW Light with three 12-bit recording modes (HQ, ST, LT). Standard XF-AVC 10-bit 4:2:2 recording ensures smooth detail at frame rates up to 120 fps without cropping. Fast/slow motion recording reaches up to 4K120 and 2K180. Additional options include XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S codecs for simplified file structures and metadata preservation.
Anamorphic De-Squeeze
Built-in anamorphic de-squeeze support allows accurate monitoring during anamorphic shooting. Choose between 2x, 1.8x, 1.5x, or 1.3x magnification options directly in the camera menu.
Dual-Base ISO
Base ISOs of 800 and 6400 in Canon Log 2 mode maximize dynamic range across different lighting conditions. Auto Selection intelligently switches between base ISOs while maintaining dynamic range.
Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II
Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II ensures sharp focus even at high frame rates up to 4K120 and 2K150. Improved light efficiency expands the autofocus area, while deep-learning subject detection enables human eye priority (left or right), as well as animal and bird detection.
Simultaneous Crop Recording
Easily create social media-ready content with automatic cropping in 9:17, 9:16, or 1:1 formats. The cropped footage is saved in 2K resolution while recording in DCI or UHD 4K, reducing turnaround time for deliverables.
Dual Card Slots
Record simultaneously with CFexpress Type-B and SD card slots. Raw recording is captured to CFexpress, while proxy and sub-recording options are saved to SD for efficient workflows.
Native Vertical Shooting UI
Switch to Vertical Shooting mode for a fully optimized interface. The display, touch controls, start/stop functions, and brightness adjustments automatically reorient for vertical shooting.
