Compact SDI and HDMI playback for USB4 and Thunderbolt 4 computers

UltraStudio Express Monitor 3G is a pocket-sized playback solution that lets you output broadcast quality video straight from your laptop or desktop. Connecting via a single USB-C port with a 40Gbps signalling rate, it works with any Mac, Windows or Linux machine that has a USB4 or Thunderbolt 4 connection — no internal card or bulky breakout box required.

It's built for editors, broadcast graphics operators and live production teams who need a reliable way to monitor their work on a proper reference display or feed video into a broadcast chain. The unit provides simultaneous 10-bit SDI and HDMI outputs, supporting SD and HD formats up to 1080p60, so you can send video to a production monitor via SDI while previewing on an HDMI display at the same time — or feed both into different parts of a live workflow.

    Key Features

    • Dual format output — 1 x 3G-SDI output (270Mb/1.5G/3G, switchable SD/HD) and 1 x HDMI 2.0 output, both carrying 10-bit colour
    • Embedded audio — 16 channels of embedded audio over SDI and 8 channels over HDMI
    • Broad software compatibility — works natively with DaVinci Resolve and a wide range of professional NLE, graphics and live-streaming tools including Premiere Pro, Media Composer, OBS, vMix, Wirecast and more
    • Extensive codec support — plays out ProRes, DNx, AVC-Intra, uncompressed and many other professional formats
    • Simple bus power — powered entirely over the USB-C cable, no external power supply needed
    • Compact, portable design — ideal for on-set monitoring, edit suites, or mobile broadcast rigs

    Typical Uses

Client and director monitoring on set, calibrated colour-accurate playback for grading, feeding SDI signals into vision mixers or routers, and outputting broadcast graphics or lower-thirds from a laptop into a live production chain.
