Magewell Modator 2U Rack-Mountable Chassis Overview

The Magewell Modator 2U is a high-density, rack-mountable modular chassis designed for professional AV, broadcast and IP video environments. Supporting up to 10 independent, hot-swappable Modator modules, it provides a flexible platform for building scalable video encoding and decoding systems. Each installed module operates independently, so you can configure the chassis to suit your workflow requirements.

Designed for reliable 24/7 operation, the Modator 2U features dual hot-swappable power supplies and optimised heat dissipation to help maintain stable performance during continuous use. The chassis supports up to 200 W of power, with each module slot supporting up to 20 W.

A built-in 91 x 81 mm LED touchscreen provides convenient access to system controls, allowing you to power the chassis on or off, monitor chassis and installed-module status, and configure network settings directly from the front panel.

For remote management, the Modator 2U provides a browser-based web interface to access chassis and module information, while HTTP-based APIs allow integration with external control and automation platforms. A 1000 Mb/s Ethernet connection provides network connectivity, while a USB Type-C port is available for configuration.

The modular design allows you to mix and match compatible Magewell modules, including Pro Convert NDI to AIO, Pro Convert NDI to HDMI, Pro Convert NDI to HDMI 4K, Pro Convert HDMI Plus, Pro Convert HDMI 4K Plus, Pro Convert 12G SDI 4K Plus, Ultra Encode HDMI Plus and Ultra Encode SDI Plus modules. This makes it possible to build a centralised video processing platform tailored to your specific production or distribution requirements.
