Blackmagic Design Videohub Mini 8x4 12G Router
The Blackmagic Design Videohub Mini 8x4 12G Router is a compact and powerful SDI router designed for professional live production and broadcast environments. Despite its ultra-compact half-rack width, it delivers exceptional versatility with eight 12G-SDI inputs, eight 12G-SDI loop outputs, and four 12G-SDI outputs on the rear panel. The router also includes front-panel 12G-SDI input and output ports for emergency patching, along with a USB-C output that registers as a webcam, allowing for direct streaming or monitoring from a computer. Whether building a compact mobile rig or expanding a more extensive studio system, the Videohub Mini 8x4 offers you high-end connectivity and control.
The front panel is built for fast, intuitive control with dedicated buttons for outputs and inputs, along with a rotary knob for quick selection. Routing a video signal is as simple as choosing the destination and then the source. This hands-on design is perfect for cut-bus-style switching during live production, allowing users to make quick changes without touching the back of the rack. Additionally, the front SDI input overrides the highest-numbered rear input when a signal is present. In contrast, the front SDI output mirrors the router’s final output — ideal for instant re-routing without disrupting existing connections.
Built with advanced 12G-SDI connections, the router supports all SD, HD, and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60. Its multi-rate capabilities mean you can route any combination of SDI signals simultaneously, allowing seamless interoperability between different devices and standards. This flexibility makes it an excellent solution for integrating gear like ATEM switchers, HyperDeck recorders, video monitors, and streaming encoders.
Each video output on the Videohub Mini 8x4 supports a clean switch function, providing frame-synchronized transitions between sources. Unlike traditional routers where clean switching is input-based, this model applies clean switching per output, enabling precise control over which destinations receive glitch-free transitions. It also supports locking to a reference signal via Blackburst or Tri-sync for accurate timing across your workflow.
The router includes full SDI re-clocking on all 12G-SDI inputs to ensure signal integrity across long cable runs. This feature regenerates and stabilizes the incoming signal, minimising jitter and eliminating errors caused by signal degradation. Re-clocking ensures reliable video performance, whether working in a studio or live on location.
In addition to its hardware controls, the router can be managed remotely via Ethernet using the Videohub Software or integrated with hardware panels like the Master Control Pro. A free SDK is available for developers and system integrators to build automation and protocol support for custom workflows.
Power options are flexible, with an internal AC power supply and a 12V DC input. This dual-power design supports redundancy and ensures the unit can operate reliably from standard wall outlets or mobile battery systems. Overall, the Blackmagic Videohub Mini 8x4 12G Router offers the perfect combination of portability, connectivity, and professional-grade functionality in a space-saving design.
