The unit features a ventilated front and rear design and a redundant power supply for added reliability, ensuring stable operation in critical broadcast scenarios. All connections are positioned on the rear panel for streamlined cable management, making it especially well-suited to fly-pack setups and compact broadcast vehicles.

Designed to simplify SMPTE 2110 deployments, the Ethernet Switch 820 enables you to build smaller IP-based systems without specialised IT expertise. Multicast settings can be configured through an intuitive router-style interface, eliminating the complexity typically associated with IP video networks. This makes it easy to deploy reliable 2110 workflows in mobile or space-constrained environments.

The switch also supports expanded storage and post-production workflows with dual 10G Ethernet ports, ideal for connecting HyperDeck ISO recorders and DaVinci Resolve workstations. For high-speed media access, you can connect a Blackmagic Cloud Store Ultra directly to the 100G Ethernet ports, enabling fast and efficient data handling across your network.

A dedicated management Ethernet port allows for system monitoring and software updates via the Blackmagic Ethernet Switch utility, available for both macOS and Windows. This port is fully isolated from control, video, and audio networks, ensuring it does not interfere with live operations.

To maintain precise synchronisation across your network, the unit includes two redundant PTP clock ports. These provide accurate SMPTE 2110 timing with automatic failover if one connection is lost. You can also connect dual grandmaster clocks for additional redundancy, ensuring continuous operation even in the event of equipment or cable failure.

With eight independent 100G Ethernet QSFP connections, the Ethernet Switch 820 is capable of handling high-throughput data streams from devices such as HyperDeck ISO Recorder 100G units, Blackmagic Cloud Store Ultra, and SMPTE 2110-compatible systems, including ATEM Constellation IP switchers. This makes it a powerful and flexible backbone for professional IP-based broadcast infrastructure.
