Manfrotto 502HD Pro Video Head with Flat Base

The Manfrotto 502HD Pro Video Head with Flat Base is an affordable yet remarkably full-featured professional head that represents an advance over the popular 501HDV, with sturdier construction and featuring Manfrotto's patented bridging technology (inherited from the 509HD and 504HD heads). The 502HD is designed for executing cinematic moves with compact camcorders and DSLR video cameras.

The head supports up to 4kgs, and spring-loaded counter balance is set for that weight. The balance plate's 3.27" range allows you to correct for uneven payloads that might be due to matte boxes or exotic DSLR rig configurations.

The bridging technology ensures that the pan friction control is intuitive and easy to set, but also protected against knocks. There are of course independent locks for pan and tilt, and drag for both is selectable in a continuous range from zero to the max level. This allows you to operate the head in a confident, smooth manner using the included pan bar.

I'd happily buy this again
We use this on a 055Pro base, supporting a older Sony HVR-7ZU camera weighing around 3 kg. This head gives us very smooth and secure control in two dimensions. Relatively simple to attach to the tripod base. Highly recommended.

I would but this again.
I use this for my Sony camcorder. Some say this is overkill but I don't see it that way at all. It does return to its own level in the up/down plane but not as well as I would have hoped. It stops at an angle which is probably about 20 degrees off level.Otherwise it works well and looks good. Even with a little camcorder.

Super smooth pans and tilts, adjustable to your preference, and lockable as well. The long baseplate gives great stability and allows you to position the camera for perfect balance.Only one single flaw, and that is the clicking noise that comes out of the tension dial when adjusting. This can be picked up by your on-camera mic, so either use an off-camera recorder, or don't adjust the tension while filming.

Highly recommended workhorse mirrorless head
Firstly, thanks Video guys for insanely fast and safe shipping!I'm upgrading to this larger video head from a Benro S4 video head. There is just no comparison. My video quality has jumped to usable professional shots and I find that I get 99% usable pans. I wanted a video head with drag because I do a bit of product work, I wanted to be able to go slow and this head delivers. It's very strong and has no issue with my GH4 mounted in a cage with a montior attached, where as my old Benro was very underpowered and would not have enough resistance against the weight.Build quality is top notch, I feel like it will hold up on the field. Knob placement is my only complaint for this tripod, but it's a small one and I barely notice now and it's only been 2 weeks.I can't believe I didn't upgrade earlier, especially considering the price! It feels like a top end tripod head. My shots look like I always wanted them too and the most important thing is I do think have to struggle to get them.
