QNAP TR-004 4-Bay USB 3.2 Gen 1 RAID Expansion Enclosure
The QNAP TR-004 4-Bay USB 3.2 Gen 1 RAID Expansion Enclosure is a versatile storage solution that allows you to expand the capacity of your QNAP NAS or your Windows, Mac, or Linux computer. Acting as a direct-attached storage (DAS) device, it connects via its USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port using the included Type-C to Type-A cable, providing fast and easy access to your data. The TR-004 features four hot-swappable 3.5-inch SATA bays compatible with both 3.5" and 2.5" hard drives, as well as 2.5" SSDs, supporting multiple RAID configurations to suit performance, redundancy, or a balance of both.
Designed for flexible storage management, the TR-004 supports hardware- or software-controlled RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10, as well as Individual and JBOD modes. Individual mode treats each drive independently, while JBOD combines drives into a single volume without redundancy. RAID 0 maximises performance by striping data across drives, RAID 1/10 offers full data redundancy at the cost of half the total capacity, and RAID 5 provides parity-based protection for up to one drive failure. Software-controlled RAID configuration is available through QNAP NAS or the QNAP External RAID Manager utility for Windows and Mac, providing detailed monitoring and management of disk health and RAID performance.
The TR-004 is ideal for a range of scenarios. It can expand the capacity of your NAS, serve as external storage for backups or data migration, increase storage on your computer, and facilitate cross-platform file sharing between NAS, Windows, Mac, and Linux devices. Supporting data transfer speeds of up to 227 MB/s and equipped with a 120mm smart cooling fan, it ensures reliable performance while keeping drives cool. For devices using the exFAT file system, a separate exFAT driver license is required.
With its independent operation and minimal NAS resource usage, the TR-004 offers a practical and efficient alternative to conventional NAS expansion enclosures, making it a reliable choice for both home and professional environments.
