The fully stacked sensor design dramatically improves readout speed, enabling blackout-free continuous shooting up to 30 fps with full AF/AE tracking and significantly reduced rolling shutter distortion.

The backside-illuminated sensor design supports 14-bit still capture with up to 16 stops of dynamic range, delivering rich tonal gradation and accurate colour reproduction even in challenging lighting conditions. Pixel Shift Multi Shooting further expands creative possibilities by generating composite images with up to approximately 265.8MP of detail for highly demanding commercial or archival applications.

Sony’s upgraded AI-powered autofocus system introduces more intelligent and reliable subject recognition than ever before. Real-time Recognition AF+ can accurately identify and track humans, animals, birds, insects, vehicles, trains, and aircraft with remarkable precision, even in crowded or unpredictable environments. Enhanced human pose estimation and Eye AF tracking improve subject acquisition for portraits, sports, and event coverage, while 759 phase-detection points provide fast and accurate focusing across nearly the entire frame.

The camera supports full-frame 8K recording up to 30p and oversampled 4K recording up to 120p with 10-bit colour and advanced recording profiles including S-Log3 and S-Cinetone. Improved Active Stabilisation and AI-assisted framing features deliver smoother handheld footage, while advanced heat management allows for extended recording times even at high resolutions.

The revised 5-axis in-body image stabilisation system now offers up to 8.5 stops of compensation, helping photographers and filmmakers achieve sharper handheld results in low-light conditions. Combined with Sony’s advanced digital stabilisation modes for video, the system delivers highly stable footage directly out of the camera.

The a7R VI also introduces a refined body design built for professional workflows. A high-resolution 9.44-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder delivers an exceptionally bright, detailed viewing experience, while the innovative 4-axis multi-angle touchscreen combines the flexibility of a vari-angle display with the convenience of a tilting screen.
