The ECM-VG1 features a super-cardioid polar pattern for excellent directivity and minimal noise at the off-axis sections of the capsule, resulting in intelligible voice pickup even in noisy environments. The microphone's wide, flat frequency response yields natural, accurate signal reproduction with crisp detail and minimal colouration.

The ECM-VG1 runs on 40 to 52 VDC phantom power, making it compatible with a variety of professional camcorders, multitrack field recorders, and portable audio recorders. The supplied furry windshield delivers up to 20 dB of wind noise reduction for high-quality audio capture in outdoor environments. It also includes microphone spacers and a mic holder to accommodate camera-mount and stand-/boompole-mount configurations.

The ECM-VG1 can be driven by 40 to 52 VDC phantom power for consistent, battery-free operation with professional camcorders, multitrack field recorders, and portable audio recorders.

The ECM-VG1 comes with a special furry windshield that has an internal frame to rigidly fix the windshield. This creates a space between the microphone and the outside part of the windshield, helping it achieve up to 20 dB of wind noise reduction. It also protects the ECM-VG1 from contact noise in harsh operational environments such as outdoor shooting.

The ECM-VG1 is supplied with a short XLR cable, a microphone holder (for use on a boompole or mic stand), two stand adapters, and a microphone spacer (for attachment to a camcorder's mic holder).
